I'm also really pleased that Michele Powles and John MacKinven from my writing group both got in as well. The three of us will be in there together when the NZ issue is released.
It is nice (I've discovered) to have a little boost when you're mid-way through a novel. I used to say that writing a novel was like eating an elephant - all you can do is try to get through it one bite at a time. But I've changed my mind. Now I think that writing a novel is like chewing up and digesting a very tough, invisible elephant. Not only does it take an endless amount of time, but you hardly ever hear anyone say, "Well done, you've almost finished that first toenail, now there's just the rest of the giant beast to go - you'll be finished in no time!"
Maybe I should post my word count on here to remind myself that I'm actually getting somewhere? 25,000 words so far, if you're interested. Progressing slowly, I know. Hopefully next time I blog I'll be able to say I've added a few more. Maybe a trunk, or one of the tusks.
In the meantime, thanks a lot to Peter Robertson for giving me a smile and something to look forward to. And a big thanks also to Scholastic! I am currently going through the editing for a short story that's going to be in their anthology... I think it will be coming out in shops later this year, maybe November? Can't wait to see it in print!
